The basic definition, as I understand it, is basically the opposite of cyberpunk. Where cyberpunk is dark and edgy, post cyberpunk is light. Where cyberpunk is generally dystopian, pot cyberpunk is "normal" life, but in the future. To me, the way I can think of it is Demolition Man is cyberpunk, whereas The Jetsons is post cyberpunk.
Does that make sense? I hope so. Honestly, I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about this genre, but it is still a relatively new sub-genre and it can get confusing at time. So, if anyone asks, we'll just say futuristic scifi fantasy, okay? At least where it comes to my book.
See, my new story is set way into the future where everyone has tech and bio mods. The difference between tech and bio mods is that tech mods are wires and metal and can be hardwired into a body or used externally like a weapon or vehicle. Bio mods, on the other hand, are just as they sound; modifications that are made to the DNA. These mods can work together at once. Some people have bio mods that activate their tech, and some only have one or the other.
The important difference that I can find between cyberpunk and post cyberpunk is that in cyberpunk stories, the elite hold the power and everyone else lives in slums and in post cyberpunk, everyone has access to tech in all social classes. Think of iRobot as a post cyberpunk story. Not that it was categorized as such, but that is where it would fall.
I hope this little explanation helps you understand better! This new story is every exciting and I am enjoying creating and meeting my new characters.
