What if I fly?

It has been a very long journey to publish my book. Like I've continuously stated in my previous posts, it has one of the scariest experiences of my life. But, sitting here writing this post, I feel so free. I read a quote on Pinterest, and the words keep coming through my head "There is freedom waiting for you, on the breezes of the sky, and you ask 'What if I fall?' Oh but my darling, what if you fly?" It is a poem written by Erin Hanson. I haven't read any of her other works, but I'm sure that those words ring true for a lot of people.
For so long I've been afraid to fall, that I never even tried to fly. I never took the chance because what if it didn't work out, or no one actually liked or even read my work. But I've come to the point where I realized that I COULd fly, if I tried. And if I didn't fly, at least it wasn't a very high jump. It didn't cost me anything but my time and energy to write a book. It cost nothing to use Amazon and I self-published. Sure, the fear of failure is still there, but I have so much more to gain than to lose.
I don't expect to be a best selling author, especially since my story is only 16,000 words long (which comes out to 64 pages printed in the paperback). But, no one would ever read the stories that I have to tell. No one would see the world the way I do, and experience new lives and paces with me. It would stay the same, and what is the point of writing then? I was still always going to write. It brings me joy and helps me process things when I'm upset. And maybe, someday, I'll wind up being someone's favorite author. Who knows. But at least I tried.
