Cinco de Mayo

How was your Cinco de Mayo? We had a great time at church with our celebration. We made our kid's class quesadillas and after the lesson, we went outside and killed a piñata. It was pretty awesome. The adults (other than my husband and I) had a potluck. We got to eat the left overs (which was still a lot of food), though. I'm still full... of heart burn (oh boy!) All in all it was a pretty good day. Now, next Sunday might now be the same.

See, next Sunday is Mother's Day (here is your reminder if anyone forgot!) Oh yeah, and the day Last Winter Days launches on Amazon (wink wink). But it is also my mom's birthday. Or would have been, anyway. She would have been 64 years old. Unfortunately, I lost her over three years ago.

My second book is dedicated to her memory. She was always my biggest supporter and I know she would have been proud to see how far I've come in my writing. I have changed so much because of losing her. There are things I can't do or see without crying. Sometimes I'm more fearful when it comes to health problems or just leaving the house because I don't want my daughter to not have a mom.

In a lot of ways I am stronger than I was when she was alive. Writing and publishing my books is one of the hardest journeys I have taken. But, let me tell you what, it has not been as hard as losing a mother when you have your first child and you're states away from her. THAT was the hardest time of my life. And I survived it. Even on my darkest days, I lived to tell the tale. If I can get through that, then everything else should be a piece of cake. She is here with me in my thoughts and memories. She sneaks into my writing. She lives through the stories I tell my daughter about her.
